Southwold SOS protest – GORD HELP US
Story Date 30th July 2008.
Story Submitted 18th August 2008.
Hundreds of people linked arms on Southwold Promenade in a human chain, to protest against Government agency plans to abandon sea defences in this area. This was intended as a follow–on from the Walberswick SOS earlier this year. Local people and visitors alike were keen to show their support. Sue Allen, chairman of the BEG said ’We are aware that Gordon Brown is on holiday in the area and would not wish to spoil it. We hope very much that he enjoys his holiday here and that it is still here for his family to enjoy in years to come’ The BEG vowed to continue their work to repair and maintain river Blyth defences in the hope that the Government agencies will soon see sense and reverse their abandonment plans.
